Impact of the North-East Railway on Wodonga

Why did people celebrate the arrival of the North-East railway in 1873 with such gusto? What did they expect of it? The commercial, political and social impact of the arrival of the railway – bringing the city to the country and the country to the city. Draws on of the work of sketch artists explaining the celebrations to their contemporaries to explain inter-colonial and inter town rivalry. .

How did the rail connection between Victoria and New South Wales come about? Why is the bridge across the Murray a heritage item? What roles has the bridge played in connecting the two colonies/states?

We are ready for visitors in our new premises.  Bonegilla Migrant Experience, Hut 97, 132 Bonegilla Road, Bonegilla. Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Wednesday 10am to 3pm.

The Society meets on the first Tuesday of each month (except January) at 2.00 pm in Wodonga Football Club Rooms, Vermont Street, Wodonga.   Visitors welcome.
